Talatuoya Police Seize Over 96,000 Litres of Illicit Liquor Mash

Talatuoya Police have uncovered a major illicit liquor operation following a raid conducted in a forested area of Bawlana village on the night of July 12. Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Talatuoya Police, under the direction of Officer-in-Charge Inspector H.M. Liyanage, carried out the operation and arrested one suspect at the scene.

During the raid, police seized 96,375 litres of “Goda” a fermented mash commonly used in the production of illicit liquor along with equipment used in the distillation process. Preliminary investigations indicate that the illicit liquor produced at the site had allegedly been distributed to Hanguranketha, Rikillagaskada, Marassana, and Talatuoya.

The suspect is expected to be produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court, while police continue investigations to identify others connected to the operation and determine the full extent of the illegal distribution network.

The seizure is one of the larger illicit liquor detections reported in the Central Province and reflects the continued efforts of Sri Lanka Police to combat the illegal production and distribution of alcohol.
