{"id":2270,"date":"2026-09-07T08:03:16","date_gmt":"2026-09-07T08:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alcohol.lk\/?p=2270"},"modified":"2026-09-07T08:03:16","modified_gmt":"2026-09-07T08:03:16","slug":"alcohol-and-drug-use-prohibited-at-school-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alcohol.lk\/index.php\/2026\/09\/07\/alcohol-and-drug-use-prohibited-at-school-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Alcohol and Drug Use Prohibited at School Events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ministry of Education has announced that the use and promotion of alcohol, drugs and other intoxicating substances will be strictly prohibited at events held under a school crest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision has been introduced through Circular No. 2026\/10, which empowers the Secretary to the Ministry of Education to immediately stop any event where such practices occur.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speaking at a press conference held as part of the \u201cRatama Ekata\u201d national operation, Deputy Director of the Co-Curricular Guidance and Counseling Branch Mahesh Rathnayake said the decision follows concerns raised by parents about children being exposed to substance use during major school sporting events, including \u2018Big Matches\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ministry has clarified that any programme conducted under a school&#8217;s crest will be considered an official school event and will therefore be subject to the prohibition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ministry has also stated that steps will be taken to closely monitor the implementation of the directive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Education has announced that the use and promotion of alcohol, drugs and other intoxicating substances will be strictly prohibited at events held under a school crest.
