Seven Dead After Consuming Suspected Illicit Alcohol in Wennappuwa–Marawila

At least seven people have died after allegedly consuming illicit alcoholic liquor in the Wennappuwa–Marawila area, according to police.

Authorities reported that the bodies of three individuals were found inside a residence in the area, and preliminary investigations indicate that they had consumed illegal alcohol prior to their deaths.

Meanwhile, eight other individuals who consumed the suspected illicit liquor are currently receiving treatment at the Wennappuwa Hospital. Hospital sources say they remain under medical supervision.

Marawila Police have launched a full investigation to determine the exact cause of death and to trace the source of the suspected illicit alcohol. Authorities have warned the public that consuming unregulated or illicit alcoholic beverages poses serious health risks. Investigations are ongoing.
