Breathalyzer Shortage No More: 80,000 Units Ready for Deployment
The Police Headquarters has confirmed that 80,000 breathalyzer units, also known as alcolyzers or “balloons,” have been imported and are ready for use across Sri Lanka.
The Director of Traffic Headquarters stated that the distribution of these devices to police stations begins today, December 23. Laboratory testing and quality assurance by the Government Analyst’s Department have been successfully completed, ensuring the units are ready for immediate field deployment.
This move aims to strengthen road safety by improving the detection of drunk driving nationwide, addressing concerns over previous equipment shortages and ensuring law enforcement has the necessary tools to enforce traffic regulations effectively.
