Closure of Liquor Shops for the 2026 Vesak Poya Festival
The Excise Commissioner General, Mr. M.B.N.A. Jayaratne, has informed that all liquor shops must remain closed on May 30 and 31, 2026, in view of the 2026 Vesak Full Moon Poya Festival, marking the Buddhist Year 2570.
Accordingly, it is hereby notified that all licensed liquor premises island-wide must remain closed from the closing time on 2026.05.29 until the scheduled opening time on 2026.06.01.
The public is requested to report any licensed liquor premises that do not comply with these closure instructions or violate license conditions on May 30 and May 31, 2026. Reports can be made via the short code 1913 or through the email oicoptroom@excise.gov.lk .
The Excise Commissioner General further states that instructions have been given to all Excise Officers island-wide to strictly enforce the law against any licensed premises found violating these license conditions.
